We’re all guilty of ignoring our personal wants and needs in favor of seemingly pressing daily tasks. When we don’t put ourselves first, it can quickly take a toll on our emotions and physical health. Self care is critical to our mental and physical well-being. Boost your longevity by escaping from daily life and spoiling yourself with things that bring you joy. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

    Indulge in a spa day

This is definitely our favorite way to indulge, and if you can afford it, we’re jealous. The tranquil environment, with its flickering candles, pleasant aromas, calming music and plush bathrobes immediately puts you into a state of relaxation. And don’t even get us started on the array of treatments. From the luxurious facials to the relaxing massages, it’s a surefire way to feel decadent and pampered.

    Do a little shopping

This one doesn’t really need further explanation, but we do have some gentle suggestions for you. For example, don’t use this time to buy groceries or anything else you need for the house, this expedition is devoted to what makes you feel good. Treat yourself to something you wouldn’t normally buy or spend some time looking for shoes, makeup, pampering products, little black dresses, and did we mention shoes? There’s no need to break the bank with this one, you can bargain hunt and make it a fun challenge.

Take a nap and spend a day in your pj’s

Take the day off work or scratch everything off your to-do list and just spend the day lazing around in your best lounge wear. Not only is it completely free, but we guarantee it will put a smile on your face.

    Movie marathon

This is a tried and true method to reward yourself after a particularly long day. Grab a friend, pop some corn and don’t forget the sweet treats. Whether you binge watch season after season of a girly TV show or a slew of John Hughes flicks, you’ll be actively destressing the entire time.

Buy yourself some flowers, and stop to smell them.

Studies show that floral scents can elevate your mood and that flowers actually make you happier. Reward yourself with your favorite bouquet and place it somewhere easily accessible so that you can look at it, and smell it throughout the day.

    Enjoy a DIY beauty day

This is a great option for anyone who can’t afford a trip to the spa. All you need is an aromatherapy candle, your favorite shade of nail polish, a hair treatment, a face mask and you’re ready for a gratifying night at home that will leave you restored and refreshed. You can invite some friends over to make a social night of it, or just unplug with your favorite tunes in the background. There are plenty of great YouTube tutorials to give you ideas if you need a refresher course about how to pamper yourself to the max
